First Visit

The first time for anything can be nerve-racking and somewhat confusing. Checking out a new church can certainly be that as well. We understand, and in an effort to make you as comfortable as we can before you visit, we thought we would share a few things about visiting Providence Presbyterian Church in an effort to make your visit as enjoyable and informative as possible:

Where to Park:

Parking and street entrances to the church are annotated here. The two street entrances from Route 236 provide access to the church’s front entrance, which is up the front steps at the circular drive, and to the church’s other entrance in the back, which is the handicap-accessible entrance and also provides handicap-designated parking immediately adjacent to the entrance.

The nursery is located at the top of the ramp that leads to Upper Williamson. Signs will direct you to the nursery, or feel free to ask any member for guidance. The loving staff of the nursery cares for children through age four and opens the nursery at 10:00 am. We invite you to use the nursery so that you may focus on getting to know Providence.

Children’s Ministry (age three to sixth grade):

We recognize that on a first visit children often will attend church with their parents. At both our traditional and contemporary services we invite younger children to come forward for “A Time for Children.”  During the school year, at the traditional service following “A Time for Children,” children are invited to Sunday School (4th, 5th & 6th graders) and Godly Play (from 3 to 3rd grade); in the contemporary service, also following “A Time for Children”, children aged 3 to 3rd grade are invited to our Godly Play. In the summer time, children are invited to Children’s Faith & Film. Understanding that children respond in different ways to new environments, please feel free to come forward and sit in the front for “A Time for Children” and/or walk with your child to Sunday School or Godly Play. Children are also welcome to return to sit with their families for the rest of the service.

Sunday School:

Adult Ministry classes are held at 9:00 am on Sundays and 7:15 pm on Mondays.  Children and Youth classes meet during worship. Providence believes that our individual and collective faith journeys include worship, education, service, and fellowship. As a congregation, we gather to learn more about our faith and each other. Class time, location, and topic information are displayed on the church’s digital displays as well as here for Adults, Youth, and Children. We hope you will join us.

From both parking lots you will see entrance doors into the building. On Sundays, “greeters” are located inside the front door at the entrance to the Sanctuary prior to the 10 am service and at the entrance to Taylor Hall prior to the 11:15 am service. Should you have any questions, feel free to ask them or any other member, many of whom will be wearing church name tags. They are happy to help.

Fellowship time:

We invite you to join us for brief fellowship if you are able. Members come together for coffee in the large hall adjacent to Taylor Hall between the services. We invite you to come meet our pastors and members.

Church information:

In addition to the information posted here, we invite you to visit and pick up information at the various ministries’ bulletin boards, view announcements displayed on the church’s digital displays located outside the Sanctuary and Taylor Hall, and speak with staff and members on areas of particular interest — Music, Children’s Ministry, Youth Ministry, Adult Ministry, Mission activities or any other area in which you would like more information. We are a faithful and loving church family eager to get to know you and answer your questions; we understand that selecting a church family is a personal decision. Please let us know how we can help you make an informed decision on Providence. We believe that once you know more about the church and its many good works, you’ll fall in love with it just as we have. We also encourage you to subscribe here to the church’s Good News email and weekly eNews communications to keep up-to-date on church activities and plans, and to begin to understand the many ways Life and Faith Connect at Providence.

Should you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to seeing you at Providence!
