Rev. Dr. Michael P. Burns
The Rev. Dr. Michael (Mick) Burns was called as the Pastor of Providence Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 31, 2009, on Pentecost Sunday. He began serving our congregation in July 2009.
He attended The University of Jamestown in Jamestown, North Dakota, on academic and football scholarships. He was a double-major in both Religion & Philosophy and Business Administration. In his senior year, the faculty awarded Mick the position of College Fellow in Religion & Philosophy. That same year, Mick was named to the All-Conference Football Team of the North Dakota College Athletic Conference.
Mick earned his Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, with a major in Preaching and his Doctor of Ministry degree in preaching from the Association of Chicago Theological Schools (ACTS) and McCormick Theological Seminary. Before accepting this call at Providence, Rev. Dr. Burns served churches in Grand Haven, MI, Moorhead, MN, and Beverly Hills, MI.
Mick enjoys music. He studied music theory, sang in the university choir, and played in the jazz band. He continues his study of drumming in his home studio in his spare time. Mick and his spouse Joni enjoy international travel, bicycling, kayaking, and hiking in Shenandoah National Park. They have two children and four grandchildren.
