LOGOS Bible Study

The goal of the LOGOS Bible study curriculum is to teach the children the following:
  • to identify the books of the Bible by testament, literary types and historical context

  • to find books, chapters and verses of the Bible with ease

  • to use Bible dictionaries, atlases, concordances various translations, commentaries and other tools for Bible study

  • to recall key biblical narratives about events and persons that present the central truths of the Christian faith and life

  • to gain a sense of the chronological sequence of key persons an events of the Bible

  • To gain a sense of the historical development and formation of the Bible from Hebrew and Greek to present day English

  • to study selected narratives and other passages to gain information and insight that is relevant to their own life situations

  • to explore questions and issues posed by biblical passages themselves as well as by interpreters of those passages

  • to express their insights and interpretations of biblical passages using a variety of creative means

  • to identify and interpret the significant images metaphors and parables in the Bible and communicate meaning about God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, humanity, the kingdom of God, the Christian life and other important biblical and theological concepts

  • to relate biblical passages to their own faith and life experiences.
The curriculum is drawn from the following age-related course of study. Course levels correspond to the age of the students with course one being for the youngest.
  1. Course One is about making friends, what families do, and Jesus as a friend. The lessons are taken from I John, Ephesians, 1 Corinthians, Proverbs, Luke, Ecclesiastes, Colossians, 1 Timothy, Psalms, Acts 1 Peter, James and John.

  2. Course Two explores the life and teachings of Jesus and our response to Jesus' words, "come follow me." Biblical sources: the four Gospels

  3. Course Three covers Old Testament Servants of God through study of men and women of faith in the Old Testament. Biblical sources: Genesis, Exodus, Joshua, Judges, 1 Samuel, 1 Chronicles 1 and 2 Kings, Jeremiah and Psalms

  4. Course Four covers the many aspects of worship and prayer in the Bible and in our own church. Biblical sources: Jeremiah, Psalms, Genesis, Luke, Deuteronomy, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John along with studies of the Christian Year

  5. Course five is a study of the familiar stories from the Old and New Testaments with an emphasis on "What does this Bible story mean?" Biblical sources: Genesis, Judges, Jonah, Esther, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John

  6. The upper levels begin the year studying the Passion of Christ. Biblical sources: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Job, Isaiah, Genesis, Romans, Ephesians, Galatians, 1 Corinthians, Romans and various Creeds
