Session Action Regarding Fall Worship Schedule

These are challenging and exciting times for Providence.  As we look around, we can see the progress as the construction nears completion.  As you know, we will add a contemporary worship service this fall.  As the Session moved forward with the planning of the new service, the challenge we faced was the schedule.

I am pleased to announce that Providence will start its contemporary service September 14 at 11:15 am.  This service will be in ADDITION to our regularly scheduled 8:45 and 11:15 am services.  Sunday school will remain at 10 am.  After a trial period, the Session will review this schedule and make adjustments as necessary.

The Session took this action after reviewing the results of the recent survey and listening to your comments and suggestions at the July 13 Congregational Meeting.  While there is strong support for the contemporary service, significant segments of the congregation wished to retain our two traditional services.  The Session felt it appropriate to respond to your strongly felt concerns.  We thank everyone who completed the survey and attended the meeting.

In addition to comments regarding the schedule and type of service to be held at Providence, many of you felt that the Session needed to do a better job of communicating the issues under consideration and its decisions.  Watch for future communications and details as we address this concern.  Thank you.
