| Senior Pastor: Rev. Dr. Michael P. Burns

The Rev. Dr. Michael P. Burns was called as the Senior Pastor of Providence Presbyterian Church on Sunday, May 31, 2009, and began serving our congregation in July of 2009. Mick has served as Head of Staff at Northbrook Presbyterian Church in Beverly Hills, Michigan, for the past seven years. He also served as pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Moorhead, MN for fifteen years.
Mick attended Jamestown College in Jamestown, North Dakota, on academic and football scholarships. He was awarded the Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy and Business degree in 1978. In his senior year, the faculty awarded Mick the rank of College Fellow in Religion and Philosophy. That same year, Mick was named to the All Conference Football Team of the North Dakota College Athletic Conference.
Mick earned his Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1983, with a major in Preaching. He conducted his further studies through the Association of Chicago Theological Schools (ACTS) and McCormick Theological Seminary, completing the Doctor of Ministry degree in Preaching in 1999.
Mick and Joni recently celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary, and are proud new grandparents of Sophia Rose. They have two grown sons, Sean and Kerry.
Mick enjoys golf and soccer and travel.

Associate Pastor: Mary E. Rodgers

Reverend Mary Rodgers has been the Associate Pastor at Providence since 1998. When she arrived via Princeton Theological Seminary her areas of focus were Mission Outreach and Adult Education. With the addition of new pastoral staff in 2003, Mary's focus areas became Mission, Worship and Spiritual Formation. A native of Charlotte, NC, she had a career as a Special Education teacher before being called into ministry. Mary loves to preach and teach and feels honored to be a part of people's lives at some of the most significant moments: births, marriages, death, illnesses, baptisms, etc. Most of all she feels passionate about sharing her faith and helping others along in their own journey with God. Mary is the mother of Elena Kate and owner of "Casey," a miniature dachshund, also known as "Reverend Hot-Dog." In her spare time Mary likes to hike and cycle, read and go to movies.

Director of Youth Ministries: Mary Ellen Moss

Mary Ellen Moss began working with the youth of Providence as a volunteer in 2005 then joined the staff in 2007. Mary Ellen has a bachelor’s degree from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA where she studied sociology and peace studies. She’s a homegrown Alaskan who loves the energy and ideas the youth bring to our church family. Mary Ellen is a fan of the Steelers, summertime, and mission trips. She lives in Reston with her husband Rob and their two happy cats.

Contemporary Worship Leader & Technology Coordinator: Rick Thiele

Rick joined the Providence staff in June of 2008 to launch and lead our contemporary worship ministry. A life-long church and professional musician, he began his formal music studies on violin studying with, among others, Josef Totzauer and later, voice and organ with Charles Frischmann of Westminster Choir College. Not satisfied with just a few instruments, Rick added double bass, electric bass, guitar, trombone, and viola de gamba through high school and college. Two of his many musical credits include appearances at Lincoln Center, NYC with the New Jersey Schola Cantorum and the Paul Hill Chorale at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Rick brings to Providence over twenty years of experience in contemporary worship leadership and choral directing experience as well as professional commercial credits.
Rick's vision and desire for worship is to bring the joy of the Holy Spirit into the hearts of each worshipper, causing them to be open to experience the presence of God each day of their lives.
