Before Daryl started attending worship here, his daughters (Macy and Claire) were involved in the Upward basketball program at this church over the past several years, and absolutely loved it. He and his wife Elaine have been married for 16 years, now living in Vienna. Elaine is a former New Jerseyan who is currently involved both in church ministry and in fundraising. Daryl has spent almost his entire life in the Vienna area, working in youth and children’s ministry. A few random facts: Daryl LOVES moose, large dogs, rabbits, playing music/songwriting, doing music gigs, memorizing Bible passages, running/using Fitbit, Chick-fil-A, sweet tea, time outdoors with his family, giving children’s talks, jazz, service ventures, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Nationals (yes, it’s possible to love both those teams at once!), and the Redskins.
Mary Ellen Moss began working with the youth of Providence as a volunteer in 2005, then joined the staff in 2007. Mary Ellen has a bachelor’s degree from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA where she studied sociology and peace studies. She also has her Certificate in Youth & Theology from Princeton’s Institute for Youth Ministry. She’s a homegrown Alaskan who loves the energy and ideas the youth bring to our church family. Mary Ellen is a fan of the Steelers, summertime, and mission trips. She lives in Centreville with her husband Rob and their two daughters.
Terry Stoneberg is Director of Music at Providence Presbyterian Church, where he directs the Sanctuary Choir. Rick joined the Providence staff in June of 2008 to lead our Contemporary worship ministry. A life-long church and professional musician, he began his music studies with violin but continuing through college added a variety of other instruments because he “just liked to play” everything – jazz, folk, rock, marching band(!), classical, etc. Since 1998, Rick has been Co-Director of Contemporary Worship at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Vienna, VA. While at Emmanuel and prior to leading contemporary worship there, he founded, directed and toured with a 35-voice high school youth choir. Outside musical activities have included performing with a number of professional bands, choirs and organizations, including playing bass, singing, and recording with The Dog Waggers, a roots/Americana band.
Joe became Providence’s first business administrator in August of 1999. He had previously retired from the U.S. Army and then a defense contracting firm, but was lured into service by the opportunity to serve God and Providence in this way. He briefly retired in July, 2012 but was called back in November to serve in his current role as the Financial Manager. Joe and his wife, Kathy, have been at Providence since 1978, as have their children Helen and Rob. Helen is married to Erik Burvis and they have two sons, while Rob is married to Mary Ellen, the Providence Director of Youth Ministry, and they have two daughters, all of whom attend Providence.
Kathy, a Hoosier by birth, joined the Providence staff in March 2007, after 7-1/2 years as a stay-at-home mom and a part-time editor/proofreader working from home. At the turn of the century, her husband’s work took them to London for three years. In the 10 years before that, they lived in a lovely little community in Catonsville, MD, just outside of Baltimore, where their son, Derek, was born. She earned a Communications degree from Butler University in Indianapolis, and continues to be an avid fan of the Bulldogs. Kathy and Ed became members of Providence in January 2004. They live in the Burke area with their older, yet still frisky cats, Sasha and Charlie.
A transplanted Kansan, military life brought Jane Kaye to Fairfax. The music scene is so abundant that she and her family decided to make this their home after military life. Jane has been the collaborative keyboardist at Providence Presbyterian since August of 1999. She is also the vocal coach and principal accompanist for the George Mason University Chorale and principal accompanist for the Fairfax Choral Society Youth Choruses.Read more >>
Director, Providence Singers
During the day Gene works as an Information Security professional. Gene has also been singing professionally in the Washington DC area for many years. He started the Providence Singers as a mission outreach to bring big band and stage music to residents of local Nursing & Assisted Living Homes and Rehabilitation Centers. The Singers perform at a different facility each month. The Providence Singers are now in their 11th season and are still going strong. He also enjoys being married to the church organist.
Lee joined the staff in May 2014. This Northern Virginia native grew up in Arlington, attending Arlington Presbyterian Church where she served as a ruling elder. Lee earned a BS in Business from George Mason University, and soon began many years of work in retail management. She then spent 15 years in the field of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ), and has been a face painter for more than 7 years at corporate and private events. She and her husband, Rob, have two amazing kids, Jody & Cory (“my best work!”). Lee joined Providence in 1998 and is a member of the Praise Band. For her health (physical and mental!) she swims and walks. And, Lee holds a U.S. Patent. Ask her about it!
